Trophee Gossett Celebris 2004 Short List
We are delighted to be included as one of the final 15 establishments in the short list for this year’s Trophee Gosset Celebris. And listen up – only two come from London, who said wine lists in the sticks were dull!
The award judges the Champagne section of a wine list – and it doesn’t have to have Gosset on it. This year the judges include, Tim Atkin, Nick Lander, Christian Davis and Christine Austin and were encouraged by the vast improvement in overall quality of descriptions, spellings and categorisation. The results will be announced on 27 September at a London awards ceremony. Fingers crossed we will keep you posted with a good result!
Champagne has always been a major feature at the Manor, representing most of the famous houses and some of the more obscure. We are delighted that our hard work promoting champagne has been recognised by our inclusion for this award.

Nigel receives special award from Prince Philip
Nigel has received an incredible honour this year when he was awarded The Prince Philip Medal, City & Guilds highest accolade of achievement. This award is in recognition of his lifelong commitment to catering leading him to be an inspiration to others and a shining example of where the City & Guilds route can lead. Nigel gained his City & Guilds qualification in general catering at the Accrington & Rossendale Catering College at the age of 18 and was presented with the award from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on 8th July 2004 at Buckingham Palace.
The Prince Philip Medal is the personal gift of the City & Guilds’ President. Only one medal is awarded each year to an exceptional individual who has started at the bottom of the career ladder and reached the top of his or her trade with the help of a City & Guilds qualification.
David Young, Chairman of City & Guilds, said: “Nigel Haworth has always been a steadfast believer in youth development and has dedicated a great deal of his time to training new chefs and supporting them on their own paths to glory. I would very much like to congratulate him for his own success and also his dedication to passing on his skills.”

Northcote Manor delivers a culinary showcase at the House of Commons as Nigel feeds top MP’s in The members Dining Room
More than 30 of the region’s finest producers took London by storm with a 10 day showcase of the North West finest foods spearheaded by Nigel.
North West produce was used in menus specially devised by Nigel to feed up to 64,000 diners throughout 2 weeks at The House of Commons’ five restaurants. Members of The House of Commons enjoyed local delicacies which included Southport Potted Shrimps, Formby Asparagus, Goosnargh chicken, Pugh’s suckling pigs, Lancashire Hotpot, Manchester Tart and Lancashire cheeses.
The success of this event has been responsible for reinvigorating local communities, inspiring confidence in our artisan producers, encouraging support for our growers and producers among restaurateurs and retailers alike and promoting food tourism in the North West. “We know that 72% of visitors are keen to try regional and local foods and we are hoping to capitalise on this becoming the first region to forge strong links between food, drink and tourism so that it can become really important part of the visitor’s experience in the North West” reports Nigel.

The Fishes breathes new life in Mitton
This will be a real pub, with real food, real beer and real people! The overall feel will be informal with a non-smoking environment, and a special welcome to families.
The Three Fishes has now opened its doors with great success.
This is the first venture into the pub market, bringing Northcote’s ethos of fine food and hospitality to an ever-growing market. A new subsidiary company Ribble Valley Inns will operate The Three Fishes with the ultimate aim of delivering a pub experience synonymous with the Northcote brand of excellent food and hospitality.
The Three Fishes has been in a dormant state for a number of years and this new chapter will start with over half a million pound investment that will re-establish The Three Fishes as a sought after destination in The Ribble Valley.
The pub will be a traditional non-smoking pub, welcoming you into the public bar with roaring log fires, the finest cask ales, organic cider and traditional favourites. The wine list has been carefully selected to offer a great range and good value for money. The food of course will be a major feature, but will be that of a traditional British pub, serving local and regional dishes, alongside British classics.
The full menu is illustrated on the new web site, which will be developed further by the end of the week. www.thethreefishes.com
There will also be a daily special board featuring the finest seasonal and regional produce.
Andrew Morris has been appointed General Manager, previously a Director of Heathcotes’s Restaurants responsible for many of Paul’s leading establishments. He has now recruited a professional and welcoming team to deliver The Three Fishes experience.
We look forward to welcoming you through the doors to experience The Three Fishes and would value your thoughts. Please e-mail us with your views and comments.
